Halos hold out the match to win

BOSTON - Angels rotation is showing signs of turning things around.

Jered Weaver rebounded from a rough output and the Angels overcame an injury to Albert Pujols to beat Red Sox, 7-3, on Wednesday night.

Weaver gave the Halos his second quality start in as many games, in seven solid innings stifling Boston bats. He recovered from the worst start of his career on Friday when he gave up nine points in three games.

"It was just one of those days when the stars are not aligned last start," said Weaver. "It will happen, and as a starter, you need to understand this and can not linger there. Myself and [receiver] Chris [Iannetta] back on the same page and the offense gave me some work in the beginning."

Angels collected 15 hits to win his second straight game at Fenway Park. After a disappointing 7.3 homestand, the club has achieved success on the road. The Angels have won their last four games in Boston.

"We could easily fold and not play our best ball that comes here, and the guys are motivated and know what is required at the end of the last line back to where we want to be," said Weaver, who won his sixth straight start. "It's good that we were able to bounce back after a tough homestand and we played really good baseball here the last two games."

Weaver struck out five against a march to win for the first time in three starts. It was his 16th Victory of the season, tying the Rays' David Price for the American League lead. Weaver scattered seven hits and allowed two runs and had control from the start, command all their seats.

The Angels' rotation into Wednesday's game with a 6.56 ERA in August, the worst mark in the major. But Ervin Santana threw six third innings of two-run ball Tuesday and Weaver followed. Angels hope that the outcome will not change when they go for a sweep Thursday behind CJ Wilson, who is winless in his last 10 starts.

"When something goes in a positive, tomorrow want CJ to take the stick and send it to the next guy in good condition," Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said. "These guys know how important they are to us and we hope that they will keep it."

Pujols was removed from the game at the end of the fourth because of tightness in his right calf with the Angels leading, 4-0. The slugger led the top of the frame with a double, moved to third on a groundout and limped home on a single by Mark Trumbo.

"I'm going down the ice tonight and doing other things and see how it goes," said Pujols, who will have an MRI on Thursday. "It's pretty bad so I just hope and pain [Thursday] i hope I feel better and play. Otherwise I'll just take a day [Off]."

Red Sox finally assembled something against Weaver in the fourth. The right-hander allowed four consecutive hits with two outs, including a pair of RBI double angels lead trimmed to 4-2. But it withdrew and regrouped the next nine batters he faced.

"He has worked on both sides of the plate and do not miss much in the middle," Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia said. "He mixed in transition, while he stay away from the middle of the plate."

Angels extended their lead to 7-2 with 1/6 three points. Howie Kendrick lined circuit in the seats over the Green Monster, his seventh of the season. Torii Hunter added a two-run single with the bases loaded and two outs.

Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz was relieved after taking seven points over a career-high tying 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings. It was his first loss since July 14, a period of seven starts.

At the bottom of the area, combined Maicer Izturis, Erick Aybar and Iannetta going 8-for-12 with four runs and two RBIs.

"I think it's good to have another part of the area up these types of numbers," said Kendrick. "I think we will need everyone to do these things if we want to continue to win."

Angels hang athletics with 3 1/2 games for the Wild Card spot seconds. If Halos continue to run as they have in Boston and their crimes remain constant, this gap continues to decrease.

"We have too much talent here something special going on," said Weaver. "We just go back to playing our ball and not try to do too much.'S View pitch, we n 'have not been up to the last month or two, and we try darndest to get back on the right track and if we do there, our offense to take care of the rest.
